Strengthen Democracy & Fight for Retirement Security
2026 Convention
Priorities
Strengthen Democracy &
Fight for Retirement Security
1. Protect Our Vote for International Executive Board
WHAT: Ensure “one member, one vote” direct elections for International Executive Board continue beyond the federal Monitorship, which may end as soon as January 2027.
HOW: Require a referendum of the membership in order to change the secret-ballot-by-mail direct voting system.
2. Extend Retiree membership to non-legacy members
WHAT: Extend “retired membership status” to non-legacy retirees, who are currently excluded from continued participation in the UAW if they retire prior to Social Security eligibility.
HOW: Set a basic standard for retired membership that can be applied to legacy and non-legacy members alike.
3. Fight for Retirement Security Union-Wide
WHAT: Most UAW members hired in the last 15 years don’t have real retirement security, including retiree healthcare. At the Convention, we should plan to change that.
HOW: Engage and educate members and coordinate contract campaigns across locals with contracts expiring. Undertake research at the International into our demands for retirement security: What options are available? Which are most appealing to members? Which are most feasible for the companies?
4. Fuel Strong Strikes with $625 Strike Pay
WHAT: The 2022 Convention increased weekly strike pay to $400, raised later in the year to $500. Since then, UAW contract gains with the Big 3 have raised top production worker pay by more than 25%. Other major contracts have achieved similar gains. Strike pay should go up by at least 25% to help members stay afloat if we strike without pay.
HOW: Increase strike pay from $500 per week to $625 per week.

UAW Conventions do not have dedicated lunch breaks. Most delegates bring a lunch or find a time to step out, missing some proceedings. To ensure you can stay fueled and focused on the Constitutional Convention, Member Action will be placing lunch orders for delivery daily. Orders will be delivered around 12:00 pm each day to the guest bleachers behind the convention floor. Please place your order by Sunday, June 14th at 10:00 pm Eastern.
