Support Striking UAW Members at Lorain County Job & Family Services

UAW Local 2192 members have entered their fourth week on strike as County Commissioners continue to stall at the bargaining table.

Can you chip in to help fuel their fight? Make a donation here. Donations will be given to Local 2192 in the form of Meijer gift cards for striking UAW members.

These 145 workers for the Department of Job and Family Services and Children Services in Lorain County, Ohio, provide essential public services for vulnerable families. They ensure their community receives the financial, family, and food assistance they need. However, low wages have forced some workers to seek better paying jobs, leaving remaining workers with greater workloads.

Contract negotiations began last August, but Local 2192 members have been working under an expired contract since September. The Lorain County Commissioners had given their “last, best, and final” offer and claim the funds for raises aren’t in the budget, but members know that this offer falls short. The county has increased the number of management positions and salaries for upper management in the past five years while workers continue to struggle with the cost of living and high staff turnover.

Local 2192 members are bargaining to bring wages up to those in similar public service positions in neighboring counties. They are also fighting for improved benefits, especially healthcare. Premiums for family healthcare plans have risen so high that workers need to place their own children on the public services they help provide, like Medicaid and SNAP.

When public service workers are underpaid and overworked, it hurts the whole community they serve. You can support this fight with a donation of any size. One day longer, one day stronger!
