Regions 6 and 8 Carry the Rest of United UAW Slate Across the Finish Line
With Regions 6 and 8 counted today, nearly all ballots have now been tallied. Shawn Fain and the United UAW slate have won a majority of the vote in every race, securing a sweeping victory in the 2026 UAW election.
Some challenged ballots remain unopened, but they are not expected to change the outcome of any race. The results await certification by the Election Monitor and the U.S. Department of Labor.
Region 6 (California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, Alaska, Hawaii)
Ballots from Region 6 were counted beginning this morning. Members delivered strong support for the United UAW slate, with Shawn Fain winning 75.2% of the vote for President and Brandon Campbell winning 73.7% for Secretary-Treasurer. Vice President candidates Laura Dickerson, Kevin Gotinsky, and Ryan Hiestand won 31.1%, 24.3%, and 23.7% of the vote, respectively, securing all three positions.
The vast majority of Region 6 members are in the higher education sector, including graduate research and teaching assistants, professional researchers, faculty, and university support staff. The region also includes state scientists, non-profit workers, aerospace workers, and some active and retired auto workers.
Members at Locals 4811 (University of California), 4121 (University of Washington), and 1115 (State of California Professional Scientists) voted overwhelmingly for Fain, by more than 74%. Notably, these large higher education locals doubled or even tripled their turnout from the 2022 election.
Workers at GM and Stellantis parts distribution centers, represented by Locals 6645 and 230, had even more support for the slate — voting by more than 83% support for Fain.
Region 8 (Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, North and South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Florida, Washington, D.C., Maryland, Delaware, New Mexico, Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and some counties in Pennsylvania)

Dickerson, Gotinsky, and Hiestand won 26.7%, 20.7%, and 18.5% of the vote, respectively, winning all three Vice President positions.
Region 8 represents mostly auto and heavy truck manufacturing, as well as agricultural implement manufacturing and public sector workers. Workers from the largest Daimler Truck Locals (3520, 5285, 2406, 5287, and 5286) backed Fain with more than 80% of the vote. The United UAW slate also received strong majority support from Local 862 (Ford Kentucky Truck and Louisville Assembly plants), as well as Local 1853 (GM Spring Hill) and Local 2164 (GM Bowling Green). At Volkswagen’s Chattanooga plant, some of the most recent workers to join the UAW after decades without major new organizing victories in auto, a majority voted for Fain.
