United UAW Starts off with a Strong Lead in Regions 9 and 9A!
The first day of the 2026 UAW Election vote count has nearly wrapped up, with preliminary results from Regions 9A and 9 so far. The Region 4 count is underway tonight. In total, around 120,000 ballots were returned by members across all regions, but an official number has not yet been provided.
Based on the preliminary vote count, the United UAW slate is leading all races. See the unofficial results posted so far by United UAW volunteer observers here.
Region 9A (New England, New York City, and Puerto Rico)
In Region 9A, Shawn Fain leads with 76.7% of the vote for President, Brandon Campbell leads with 74.5% for Secretary-Treasurer, and Vice President candidates Laura Dickerson, Kevin Gotinsky, and Ryan Hiestand lead with 30.6%, 24.6%, and 23.1%, respectively. This region is made up largely of academic and legal workers but has a sizable membership in the non-profit sector and the Puerto Rican service sector, as well as defense manufacturing. Turnout in the region substantially decreased from last election cycle.
The election for Region 9A Director was uncontested. Congratulations to United UAW slate member Brandon Mancilla on his reelection!
Region 9 (Western New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania)
In Region 9, Shawn Fain leads with 73.6% of the vote for President, Brandon Campbell leads with 73.0% for Secretary-Treasurer, and Vice President candidates Laura Dickerson, Kevin Gotinsky, and Ryan Hiestand lead with 26.1%, 23.6%, and 20.8%, respectively. Most of these voters are active or retired autoworkers across GM, Ford, and suppliers.
The election for Region 9 Director is too close to call today. Pre-challenged ballots will continue to be reviewed in order to resolve potential duplicates or voters whose eligibility is uncertain.
Off to a Strong Start!
Overall, the United UAW slate is off to a strong start in some of its most favorable territory. In the Region 4 count getting started tonight (swapped in the tentative order with 2B), we will begin to see whether these trends carry into the Midwest. So far, United UAW candidates are carrying 70-80% support with more than a third of locals reported. Most of the largest locals remain to be counted. Region 4 is unlikely to be completed before the shift ends at midnight.
Volunteer election observers with the United UAW slate will continue reporting unofficial results throughout the week. Check out the live results as the ballot count resumes tomorrow morning, and see breakdown of results by region and local here.
